Cecil Rice was born in Nottingham in 1961. He has both lived and worked in Brighton since 1974. Since graduating from Brighton Art College in 1983 he has pursued a successful career as a fine artist exhibiting throughout the UK. He enjoys an ever growing patronage which results in his occasional one man exhibitions all but selling out. In 2002 he enjoyed his first Cork Street (London) show which was a great success and also in the same year exhibited work for the first time in Japan.
Cecil Rice's silkscreen editions are very well collected. Usually in editions of 250 to 300, they are carefully chosen to convey his tremendous skill as a painter. Each edition is printed by hand, working closely with the silk screener himself.
Travel is the central inspiration of his work. Italian cities, in particular Venice, along with the Tuscan countryside form the focus for much of his work. In addition travels to North Africa and Turkey have also been beautifully captured in watercolour. In often stark contrast, Rice also paints the sunsets, seas and shores of southern England.
Cecil Rice is a name we feel to become synonymous with the finest traditions of British watercolourists. |
