From the Art Institute and the Academy of Art in Chicago, Fred Otnes pursued a traditional career as an illustrator, until an intial experiment combining etching with collage changed that course.
Since that inspired episode, for thirty five years his singular style has been in constant demand from major corporate clients including The National Geographic Society, American Express, NASA and IBM.
The success of Otnes's collages lies in their integration of the unexpected, in the brilliant skill with which they juxptapose intrinsically alien objects - The past and the future - Photographic positives and negatives - The two dimensional and three - The organic and inorganic - The abstract and the concrete - The eternal and the momentary. By intertwining specific examples of these popular opposites, Fred Otnes succeeds in creating a world altogether his own.
The collection of Silkscreens/Serigraphs shown have been carefully selected to convey the dynamics of the original pieces upon which they are based. Each print is individually hand pulled onto 300 gsm french milled paper comprising a minimum of 30 screens. The artist has checked and approved the stage by stage process and finally signs and numbers each sheet.
Fred Otnes regularly exhibits his original works in New York. |
