Originally from Denmark, Henrik Simonsen currently lives and works in UK. His work has already achieved an international audience with participation in exhibitions across Europe and in USA. Consequently his paintings and silkscreen prints feature in numerous private and corporate collections. In 2006 his solo exhibition was staged at The Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, works have also been selected for international events in New York and Los Angeles.

In his own words ‘…the main element in my work is drawing. The attraction to drawing stems from the directness of the mark making process and the simple, yet magical way lines on the surface create shape and form.

What is very important to me when I work is the history of the piece; this is why I rarely attempt to erase anything completely on a canvas. I prefer to keep the line or lines I later abandon, change or work over as part of the finished painting.
