Idiosyncratic sums up the work and world created by English artist Alan Page – from his studio in south Norfolk, Alan has created an ongoing series of oil on canvas or panel works which explore familiarity juxtaposed curious. Scenes and settings are often taken from his home county, the grounds of Blickling Hall, the expansive sands of Holkham and Burnham, Churches and Churchyards. Into these scenes figures are allowed to participate which in turn entice the viewer to consider the event or occurrence before them.

Born a Londoner, Alan has now lived in Norfolk for over 40 years. A revised interest in oil painting led, in 1993, to him winning the figurative painting prize at the prestigious Eastern Open competition. The following year he won the same prize again and thereafter concentrated on his vocation as an artist. Since 1995 he has had a close relationship with The Red Dot Gallery at first through their London location and subsequently in their Holt venue.  He has also exhibited and sold work through other London galleries including The Register of Naïve Artists (The RONA Gallery), The Portal Gallery and The Gallery in Cork Street. In 2009 a collection of his paintings was exhibited in Japan.

‘And thus the village folk, dressed with flowing garments and homemade wings, head across the moonlit churchyard and into St. Nicholas’s which itself is illuminated by candlelight. Beyond, the flooded marsh and distant North Sea glisten to complete this most intriguing scene.’
