Helen Bartholomew
My love of art started at an early age and grew with me. Whilst I was in full time employment it bubbled away in the background. In 1996 I took a BA Art degree course under private tutelage. In 2002, with new artistic principles and understanding my painting took on a more significant role. I studied art history for two years at the UEA and received private tuition for painting and drawing. I recently attended several courses at The Art Academy in London for portraiture and last year I took early retirement from the NHS to concentrate fully on my painting career.
I work primarily in oil but also use charcoal, pencil and occasionally collage. I specialise in portraiture and love to paint animals. I have recently found inspiration from the good old British pub sign with all their variations and themes. The pub sign for me is a way of using narrative within the painting on which I can project my own themes and stories, and as always , my silly sense of humour.
My paintings can be seen in galleries throughout Suffolk, Norfolk and London. My work is regularly shown at the Mall Galleries in The Discerning Eye, New English, Figurative Art Now, RP and ROI annual exhibitions.
