Located in the centre of Holt at No.7 Fish Hill.
The Gallery is just a few steps away from the High Street and opposite Bakers & Larners as the crow flies!
The Red Dot has an ever changing display of original paintings, limited edition prints, sculpture, glass and ceramics. In addition there is always a carefully chosen range of gifts & cards including lots of unique items. The gallery has the benefit of both a ground floor retail space whilst on the first floor is a spacious and light gallery where the majority of the paintings and prints are displayed.
The gallery represents several professional artists; all have painted for many years, even decades, in order to perfect their individual and distinctive styles. Figurative painting is certainly to the fore of our presentation be it human form or that of fauna;
ROBERT HEINDEL’S dance and dancers, LIZZIE RICHES’S period portrayals given a modern twist, ROSALIND LYONS’S Shakespearean players – contemporary actors in historic costume, KATE LEIPER’S wonderfully observed cats, dogs, sheep and more, MARY CARLSON’S quirky canine compositions and ALEX EGAN’S spontaneous watercolours of bird and beast!
Don’t dawdle outside, come on in – there is music playing, everything is priced and there really is a lot to see. If you cannot find us then cross over the main high street with Bakers and Larners behind you, the little green building facing you is Feeney’s Newsagents step behind and you have arrived at your destination…
FOR OUR SPRING EXHIBITION COMMENCING SATURDAY 25th
A QUARTET OF ‘MAKERS’ WILL EXHIBIT THEIR THREE DIMENSIONAL WORK IN THE UPPER GALLERY
25th MARCH – 20th APRIL
TERRY SHONE – Our patience rewarded as Terry has let us have six beautiful examples of his ceramic hunting hounds. Whilst their inspiration lies in the traditional Staffordshire flat back models of the C19th this new work displays a contemporary twist in its freshness. Each piece is individual, decorated with colour slips, glazes and lustres. Prices from around £300.00.
MAGGIE HOBBS – In her most recent work Maggie reflects her interest in English vernacular pottery such as Pratt ware. All the subtleties and naivety of the early ceramics are realised in Maggie’s delightful needle-felted creations. Each new dog has its own appropriate setting and is presented within an individual hand blown glass dome. Prices from around £200.00.
LOUISE BROWN – Quirky canines in clay just about sums up the world that Louise takes us to with her unique ceramic pieces. Working with stoneware and porcelain clays, Louise uses a variety of oxides and under-glazes to perfect the matt finish, only employing full glaze for wet noses and shiny eyes! Each piece serves to capture the spirit of the breed observed, pedigree or ‘Heinz’! Prices from around £375.00.
KAREN ELDERFIELD – Several months ago, Karen visited the gallery with a couple of her beautiful little bears. The gallery was immediately enthusiastic and keen to exhibit the works. In order to elevate the individual bear, now dogs too, it was agreed to create a visual narrative involving each in a central role. With the help of our friend Hilary, boxes, bunting, lavender filled cushions and antique trinkets have been used to almost magical effect and so each little character now comes with its own story. Prices from around £240.00.
