Derek Blois

I was born and lived my early years on the coast of Essex, England. After leaving school and serving in the Essex Constabulary for a time, I felt the call of the creative urge and spent the next five years at Art Schools in Colchester and Brighton where, gaining a BA (Hons), I then moved to London to work in various Design Agencies. A few years later along with my family we packed our bags and travelled up the M11 to North Norfolk where we co-founded Adept Design, a design, illustration and creative agency.
After 30 years in the creative business with my wife Liz and with our two small sons all grown up, married and getting on with life, we decided to call it a day, sold up the business. This gave me the freedom to be more involved in our church in Norwich, Soul Church and to concentrate more on painting.
Due to my special interest in military maritime and aviation, I was very soon being commissioned to paint for the British Army, Royal Navy and Royal Air Force plus many for private buyers and collectors.
My work can now be seen in many ward room, officers and sergeant’s Masses, dining rooms, ships and other establishments around the UK, the USA and various other countries. These include all kinds of aircraft, ships, armed vehicles, helicopters and portraits.
But when I can find a gap in between commissions I do like to step away from this work and paint something quite different. Hence an eclectic mix of work is now on show at the Red Dot Gallery
