Nicola is known for her dramatic yet often intricately detailed pastel paintings where she shows her comprehension and mastery of the equine form. She loves to convey the intimacy that can be felt between horse and human at that moment when one catches ones breath for the briefest moment in that precious connection.
Her knowledge and understanding come from her lifelong love of horses which began when she was put onto her first pony at two years old. She counts herself extremely fortunate to have owned a few horses and ponies throughout her life and to have spent many years with her daughter eventing and show jumping. She works from her spacious studio in a converted stable block which used to house her horses not so long ago.
Whilst horses remain her absolute passion, Nicola also loves to paint dogs, fulfilling commissions of many different breeds. She adores terriers and their feistiness and owns two Borders. She is also hoping to sneak a Jack Russel into the mix when her husband isn’t watching! “Dogs are a constant in most of our lives and I love to portray them in their many forms and with their very different characters.”
Nicola is a member of the Society of Equestrian Artists and has exhibited with them at Sally Mitchell’s Gallery in Nottinghamshire. She is also a member of the Norfolk and Norwich Art Circle and has painted and exhibited with them for the last two years. She exhibits regularly in Suffolk, and is proud to be represented by the Red Dot Gallery, Holt.
